WSS: (initial discussion with Trev/Ian Fri 11/3/11)
Permissions of users folders now are - just the user has access
Permissions on group folders are - just the group memembers (+any extra users) are members
Because MIS don't have a user that has access to these folders we can't do things we need...
- AV scan
- implement quotas
- check file/folder sizes (looking for big files)
- check for certain files types (looking for big files)
- admin on groups - adding an extra group or user to access an existing group
- add a user to access a user's folder who's left
Proposal: Have a 'superuser' that we can logon to the WSS with and that 'superuser' will have access to all folders (users and groups). Could be the 'superuser' is not the same and the existing 'MIS' domain users, and is managed separately.
Problem to resolve: How to implement this - how to ensure that all existing files and folders security permissions get updated to add the superuser AND that any files/folders that the users create also have security permission to allow the 'superuser' access. In the past Ian has had problems to neatly achieve this, and has had situations where temporarily taking ownership has then excluded the user from accessing the files until ownership is transferred back again. Some experimentation is required.
Consider also the Grangemouth WSS situation. (what is there current security setting - are they starting from the same place as us?)
